Reception and Year 1 visit to the Eden Centre

On Tuesday 7th July, the Reception class, together with Year 1, had a lovely day out at the Eden and Lego Education Centre, Llanhilleth. When the children arrived, each class was allocated a classroom, where they undertook activities using Lego. Each activity had a Literacy and ICT focus. Reception children's first task was to build their own caterpillar from the Lego provided, following a short animated story of 'The Hungry Caterpillar'. This fitted in with their topic 'Teeny Tiny Things.' Year 1 designed 4 story scenes using Lego following a story read to them, about pirates.

All the children were thoroughly engaged throughout the sessions and their enjoyment was infectious. During the visit, there was also time to use the play area next door, where the children were set an activity of finding 'Teeny Tiny Bugs', whilst using the soft play equipment. We also managed time to eat our delicious packed lunches before returning to the classrooms to be given another fun task. Reception had to build a butterfly using Lego, ensuring that it was symmetrical on both sides, this was tricky, but the children managed it in the end. Year 1 were shown how to make a digital storyboard, using the ipad and their earlier Lego models.

All too soon it was time to leave and return to school. A fabulous, enjoyable day of educational fun had by all.
